I hope I never need hearing aids but now at least there are options to make my hearing as good or possibly better than before. Plus, I can have music right in my ears via external source- MP3 player, radio, etc... These are attched to your bone behind your ear via small titanium screws that sense vibrations. So, it's basically like dolphins' ears (which have some of the best sense of hearing in all of the animal kingdom by the way). Read more and get your nerd on > HERE<.
I've been overwhelmed by a tidal wave of music recently. Here are 4 of my favorite songs from the past week. Unfortunately all this new music has been digital :( someday when I'm really ballin' I'll buy these on vinyl. That's about $1200+ worth of wax right there IF you can actually find copies for sale. I know the Magnum LP has been reissued and songs off the Copa 7 LP appear on compilations. Good luck on finding clean copies of the Ofege albums..they had 4 albums between 1974-78 and they're all exxxxxpensive!
Everybody Feels The Same by Ofege from "The Last Of The Origins" LP EMI Nigeria 1974
Natural Juices by Magnum from "Fully Loaded" LP Phoenix 1974
Not much to say here. Just a really nice bike that uses wood instead of metal for some of the tubing. The joints are metal though. This was made by Arndt Menke.
I am familiar with the bamboo bike by BME and the new Bamboo bike Ross Lovegrove designed for Biomega...and the wooden bike at the Camper store in SoHo...and several other wooden (even cardboard) bikes. None of those look this good though.
WOW! Remember the cardboard sound cube I posted a while back? (here) Well this is a similar idea just waaaay better! This piece was an installation for 100% Design Tokyo and co-designed by two amazing firms from Amsterdam, Elastik Architecture and Mat Studio. Together these firms transformed a standard shipping container into a very unique and personal aural experience that is meant to be a blissful retreat in contrast to the turmoil of this high profile event in Tokyo.
This is kinda dope. Unfortunately, the testers in the video couldn't really do anything but it has a lot of potential and looks like a lot of fun. It's not quite on the level of the Tagged In Motion project I posted back in the summertime (HERE) but, still this is quite impressive.
Joel Scilley makes beautiful wooden turntables and and is partner in FiveTen Studio in Oakland. He makes these turntables on his own terms but will also work with clients to create anything you want. I know this one looks more like london broil but it's actually wood. Maybe it will look like wood to me when I'm not so hungry.?
There is still no word on if this is real or not. The pictures look very convincing however, the company does not seem to be selling it anywhere and the picture credit is for some Belgian architecture blog. Still a great idea and I want it. Tadao Andois one of the few architects I know more than a little bit about and I really admire his work. The Koshino House is an icon in the world of architecture and Tadao Ando is perhaps the most prolific and most decorated architect alive today.
Before I die I want to own at least one high-end turntable. (Technics 1200s are NOT high-end!) Of course I'll also own some of the portable turntables I really want by this point too. And maybe one or two of some old classic turntables I really want. But until those days come..we got pictures. You can see more stuff you can't afford at the company's website- Transrotor
Some of you have probably seen this already on the interweb but for those that haven't, it's called Golden Shellback and it is amazing!!! It was developed for the marine industry but somebody there had an epiphany- we all have electronics and get near water. Except for me, I avoid water unless it's mixed with fermented hops & barley. I haven't showered in years either...that's what deodorant is for.
If you're like me and have more money than you know what to do with and you have an undying love for DJing and vinyl, you may consider buying yourself a custom made DJ desk from MetroFarm. When I first saw these I thought they were fake but no, they really make these. I'm guessing they rig the wiring so there is just one plug going out but what about access to the mixer and headphone jack? I guess the designers aren't DJs or they just weren't given good specs? In any case, these are beautiful. They also do a lot of other work including retail spaces for Nike. (btw...I WANT a pair those Air Max in the pic!!). Definitely check out the rest of their site.
